DStv Explora & Ultra Installation in Worcester

The latest decoders, set up and ready to record and stream.

Overview

Upgrading to a DStv Explora or the 4K-ready Ultra unlocks the good stuff — recording, pause-and-rewind, Catch Up and streaming apps like Showmax all in one box. We supply or install your unit, activate the smart card, connect it to your WiFi, and make sure profiles, recordings and the apps are all working before we leave.

It sounds simple, and it should be — but a decoder is only as good as the signal feeding it. The Explora and Ultra are hungrier for a clean, stable feed than older boxes, which is why a proper dish alignment matters so much when you upgrade. Out in the valley, where a weak signal and summer heat can already be working against you, we make sure the foundation is solid first, then get the decoder talking to your TV and your network.

If you are coming from an older decoder, we will swap it over cleanly and carry across what we can. Want different channels in different rooms while you are at it? That is the XtraView setup — link a second box so the family stops fighting over the remote. Not sure DStv is even the right fit versus free-to-view? Our DStv vs OpenView guide lays it out.

One tidy visit, properly set up, with the handy bits explained — that is the job. We do it for homes, guesthouses and guest farms across the Breede River Valley.

DStv Explora & Ultra Installation FAQs

How long does a full Explora or Ultra installation take in Worcester?
Most Explora and Ultra installs in Worcester and the surrounding Boland are completed within two to three hours, depending on dish access and cable routing in your home. If you're in an older Worcester house or a farmhouse out towards Rawsonville, extra cabling can add time, but we'll confirm on arrival. Contact us to book a slot that suits you.
Do I need a Smart LNB for my new Explora or Ultra?
Yes — the Explora Ultra and current Explora models are designed to run off a Smart LNB, which lets a single dish feed multiple decoders without an extra multiswitch. During installation we fit and align the Smart LNB and test signal quality across all channels. This keeps your setup tidy and ready for XtraView later on.
Will summer thunderstorms and lightning around Worcester affect my Ultra?
The Breede Valley gets sharp summer thunderstorms, and lightning surges are the main risk to a decoder — not the rain itself. We recommend running your Ultra through a surge-protected plug and unplugging during severe storms. Proper earthing and a well-secured dish also help your signal ride out the heavy weather.
Can you pair my Explora Ultra to my home WiFi and set up Showmax?
Absolutely — the Ultra connects to your router over WiFi or a network cable so you get catch-up, on-demand and Showmax built into the interface. We'll pair it to your WiFi, sign you in, and make sure streaming plays smoothly on your Worcester connection. Showmax runs off your internet, so a stable line gives the best picture.
Does dust from the dry inland summers damage the dish or LNB?
Worcester's hot, dry summers do throw up dust, but a correctly sealed LNB and weatherproofed connections shrug it off for years. The bigger enemies are cracked cable seals and sun-perished fittings, which we check and replace during installation. A quick clean and inspection each year keeps everything performing.
What's the difference between the Explora and the Explora Ultra?
The Explora Ultra is the newer decoder with built-in streaming apps like Showmax and Netflix, a faster interface, and no separate satellite smartcard needed. The standard Explora still records and pauses live TV but relies more on the satellite feed alone. We'll help you pick the right one for your viewing and can upgrade an older setup on the same visit — see our signal and repair services if your current decoder is playing up.
