Extra View / XtraView Setup in Worcester

Different channels in different rooms — properly linked.

Overview

One subscription, more than one room watching what it wants — that is XtraView. Stop the standoff over the remote by linking a second (or third) decoder so the lounge, the main bedroom, the patio or the braai room can each watch their own channel, all on the one DStv account.

The job is partly cabling and partly configuration. We run a neat link between the decoders — no small thing in a bigger Worcester home or a guesthouse with rooms spread across a property — set up the XtraView link on your account, and test that both boxes hold their channels independently. Done properly it just works; done carelessly you get one room knocking the other offline, which is exactly the kind of "fix" we get called out to undo.

It pairs naturally with an Explora or Ultra upgrade on the main TV, and for a busy household it is one of the most worthwhile things you can do — there is a real-world walkthrough in our post on setting up XtraView for a busy household. For guesthouses and larger setups it often goes hand in hand with a commercial install.

Whatever the layout, we will work out the tidiest way to get every room watching, and sort the account side so there are no surprises. We cover homes and guest farms right across the valley.

Extra View / XtraView Setup FAQs

What is XtraView and how does it work in a Worcester home?
XtraView lets you link two or three DStv decoders onto one subscription, so you watch different channels in different rooms without paying for separate accounts. It's ideal for Worcester family homes and larger properties where the lounge, main bedroom and a farmhouse cottage all want their own screen. We link the decoders, register them with DStv, and test each room before we leave.
How many decoders can I connect with XtraView?
You can link up to three decoders in total on one XtraView group — one primary and up to two extras. That covers most homes and farmsteads in the Breede Valley, from a main house to a granny flat or entertainment room. If you need coverage beyond three rooms, we'll talk through the options for your layout.
My farmhouse near Rawsonville is large — can XtraView still reach the outer rooms?
Yes, but distance matters: long cable runs across a big inland property can weaken the signal if the cabling isn't the right grade. We use quality coax and, where needed, the correct splitters and amplification so every linked room gets a clean picture. Get in touch and we'll assess the run lengths on your farm or smallholding.
Do all the decoders need to be the same model for XtraView?
They don't have to be identical, but they must all be XtraView-compatible — for example an Explora linked to an HD decoder. We'll check that your existing decoders can be paired before setup so there are no surprises. If one unit is too old, we can suggest a suitable replacement to complete the link.
Can each room watch different channels at the same time?
In most cases yes — each linked decoder can view different channels, though some premium or interactive channels may only play on one decoder at a time. For everyday viewing across the house it feels like fully independent TVs. We explain any limits during setup so the whole family knows what to expect.
Will XtraView increase my monthly DStv bill a lot?
XtraView adds a modest access fee per extra decoder rather than a full second subscription, which is far cheaper than two separate accounts. Pricing is set by DStv and changes from time to time, so we won't quote a fixed Rand figure here. Ask us during booking and we'll point you to the current access-fee details.
